Question: I don't understand how to do these Algebra I problems...help??

well heres a couple, that I'm not sure how to do. I'm not concerned about the answers, just how to get there. =)

1. 3y(cubed) - y(cubed); I know it equals 2y(cubed) but how?

2. and x^12 times x^4 = 2x^20 right?

Directions: Simplify each fraction
3. the square root of 6x^2 over (fraction bar) the square root of 2x. I'm not sure if my answer is right, and my book doesn't have it

4. the square root of 12 + the square root of 20 - the square root of 4 (once again, were simplifying)

SOLVE FOR X
5. the square root of 2 times (x + 3 times the square root of 2) = 18
so it should look like: square root of 2(x+3times square root of 2)= 18
I'm sorry I don't have that useful math font thingy, I cant figure out how to use it on a mac, or if it eve has it, because I don't use Microsoft Word. I use Iwork08 the Pages program.

Number 5 is what game me the most trouble, I keep ending up with different answers that are wrong.

Answer: 1. As u see, we can factor it. so we have
3y-y=y(3-1)=2y
That's why u can get the answer
2.because they have the same base, u just need to add their exponents and keep the base. So, we have
x^12 times x^4=x^(12+4)=x^16
It means your answer is wrong.
3. As u said,we have:
V(6x^2)/V(2x)=V(6x^2/2x)=V(3x)
V: radical sign( because I don't have the program of math symbols so i use V for a square root)
4. v(12)+V(20)-V(4)=2V(3)+2V(5)-2
5.
V(2)times[x+3V(2)]=18
xV(2)+6=18
xV(2)=12
x=12/V(2)
x=6V(2)
I have just done it by following what u said above. I hope it is helpful for u.

Question: i want to be a software engineer i want to work in the video-game industry ?

i have loved video-games for a long time i would really enjoy creating some i have no idea what classes to take for software engineering and can anyone please give me a few math classes i am going to need

Answer: you can make professional-looking games using microsoft xna which works on xbox too, by learning xna you're not just making games which look nice in a fast way, you'll learn directx, your mind will be wired up for 3d geometry, it has a brilliant forum with many MVPs posting, answering young developers to help them (further, it's a burst of inspiration)

you need C# express, every tool is free from microsoft but you can access more stuff as a premium member.
there are good books for xna and sometimes you see their authors are also posting on xna forums
