The parents spent $20 each on gifts for Ray, his 4 married brothers and 3 married sisters and the 7 spouses, or

(1 + 4 + 3 + 7) x $20 = $300

They spent $15 each on Ray's 6 unmarried cousins, or

6 x $15 = $90

Ray's parents spent $300 + $90 = $390 on Christmas gifts.

The river begins at 3 mph, then flows at 2 x 3 = 6 mph, and finally during the last 10 miles, flows at 3 x 6 = 18 mph.
