math games variables
Question: Math question help plzz?

How do I calculate the variable cost for this partial relation
A bowling alley has a fixed base cost and charges a variable per game rate. It costs $20.50 for 5 games and $28.50 for 9 games.

What IS the variable cost?
It is $2 but HOW do you get it please explain

Answer: The equation looks like this:
Total Cost=(Variable Cost)(Number sold)+Variable Cost

So we can make two equations with what you gave:
20.50=V*5+F
28.50=V*9+F

We can solve for V by subtracting the equations:

8.00=V*4
V=2.00

So the variable cost is $2.00 per game. Now we can plug that in to one of the original equations to get the fixed cost:

20.50=(2.00)*5+F
F=10.50

So fixed cost is $10.50.
