Question: Probability math problems.. Help!?

A game is played by rolling a die. The number rolled counts as a positive value if it is even, and a negative value if it is odd. For example, rolling a 4 would give you +4 points, whereas rolling a 3 would give you -3 points. What is the effective value for the game?

3

-2

0

1

Using only the spades from an ordinary deck of playing cards, points are awarded as follows: Drawing an ace gives you -3, drawing a face card gives you +4, and drawing a numbered card gives you a -1. What is the effective value and is the game fair?

+1, No

-1, Yes

0, Yes

0, No

Answer: Even and odd values have equal chances of being thrown. So the value of the game will be
+4 -3 = +1

There are 13 cards, one ace, 3 face cards and 9 others.

The effective value is
(-3*1/13 +4*3/13 -1*9/13*13 = 0.

The game is fair.
