Question: need help with a simple 8th grade math problem?
steve, felicaia, and pat - a ninth grader, a tenth grader, and an eleventh grader, but not necesserily sitting in that order - were seated around a circular table, playing a game of hearts.
each passed three cards to the person on the right. felicia passed the queen of spades and two diamonds to the person who passed cards to the eleventh grader.
who was the ninth grader?
who was the tenth grader?
who was the eleventh grader?
let me fix that last paragraph
each passed three cards to the person on the right. felicia passed three hearts to the ninth grader. steve passed the queen of spades and two diamonds to teh person who passed cards to the eleventh grader.
Answer: do you mean they are 9th, 10th and 11th respectively or not

For a game, Patricia must roll a die and draw a card from a deck of 26 cards, with each one having a letter of the alphabet on it. What is the probability that Patricia will roll an odd number and draw a letter in her name?
The book says the answer is 3/26. How should this problem be done?
Answer: Beth has the right idea, but her final calculation should be (1/2) (3/13) = 3/26.
