Question: Question for anyone from the UK now working in Gibraltar?

From June 2009 I may be moving from the UK to Gibraltar as that is where my boyfriend's job will be based from then.

Have you or anyone you know moved to Gibraltar first and then found work once they are there?

How easy will it be for me to find a job once I'm there? I can see that there are plenty of vacancies advertised but I wondered if my skills and experience would be what someone is looking for or is there a lot of competition? I am 26 and I have around 5 years+ experience in Admin/Secretarial roles which includes 18 months in the Betting/Gaming Industry. I am also a part qualified Veterinary Nurse and have small animal and exotics experience. I have 7 GCSEs inc English, Maths and Science. I don't have A Levels or a Degree as I have mostly worked since leaving school.

I am mostly looking for some reassurance about my chances of finding employment once I'm settled in there. Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Answer: I am too in the process of moving abroad and Gibraltar is somewhere I've looked at (this is because friends live there too), but I've also looked at the Canaries.

From speaking to others, there are always jobs abroad and they're easy to come by once you are over there. No-one is interested in speaking to someone whilst they are still living in England. They want to see you and interview you there and then.

Judging by your qualifications you are well equipped for offering someone your services, however it's always best if you can speak the language also. I found that office jobs are brilliant and quite well paid but my lack of the local language has let me down.
