Twister Math Game
![]() |
Below is a great math game for the outdoor. Most Math Games are played indoor but this math game is best played outside. This math game is very similar to twister which most kids have played at one time or another, except that the Twister Math Game requires some math skills to play.
How to play the Twister Math Game?
With sidewalk chalk, write numbers all over the ground. Make sure it is your property you are writing on.
You can use how many numbers you like, and put them somewhat close together so they can put their feet and hands on them at the same time (think of the game Twister).
Then I make a bunch of slips of paper out with numbers on them (if you use numbers 1-10, the lowest amount on the slip of paper would be 2, if you used 10-20, the lowest number on the papers would be 20, etc.) .
Then have the kids get on the edge of the court, and you draw a number.
They then have ten seconds to place at least two body parts (hands and feet) on numbers that add up to be the number you called.
For example, if you call eight, someone could put their feet on 3 and 5, or their feet on 2 and 3, and their hand on 3.
This math game is basically like twister, but they have to use their math skills and be able to make up an addition problem. It works great for early elementary children, and they love it. Whoever makes the first equation wins!
To twist it up, when you call the next number, they have to keep at least one body part on a number they are already on. Don't let anybody fall!
